Is Wing a good Rugby position?

I've never played in a game, but we run drills and the coach has me at wing all the time. I rarely see the ball. He says the wing is usually the fastest player on the field and the smartest.... Can anyone tell me a bit more about my position? a lot of hard work but a good position

keep going, stay there and you will gain your teams trust more and you will see more ball. when your on the blind, go in more rucks and more to stay warm and to help the forwards. if you want to see more of the ball, talk the the fly half or half back and get them to kick the ball more or ask the outside to pass it to you so you can pass it to the fullback

It is a great position. You can get as much ball as you want. You can wait for it to be passed out to you, pick up oposition kicks and go infield after the ball.

they're all good positions, but remember, its only a good position for u if u enjoy it and are good at it. Try it out, if ur no good at it, u'll change, they won't keep u at the wing :p. All positions are good, all positions are important, thats the coolness of rugby. But thats on the observers standpoint and the clubs. See i know forwards that love playing forwards, its a good position for them, but i don't like it.

as you get older wingers become more like 2nd and 3rd full backs.

just watch a game of professional rugby and watch how much thw wingers have to do, it is a vital position

i play wing and full back
you need to gain the teams respect and confidence, so they can rely on you when they pass or kick. they wanna be comforted that you wont screw up by dropping the ball or giving away silly ground

I would say if you are fast and like to tackle...go for it.
Sometimes the wing can go and look for work if he sees the ball is not coming his way during the match...
But if you are fast like Habana of the Blue Bulls or Nokwe of the cheetahs, play wing and make it your position.
Don't jump around to other positions.
