Each pool will also have a filter system. There are three main filter styles - cartridge, sand, and DE. Cartridge is easy to maintain. Just rinse the cartridge and your ready to go. Occasionally you will have to replace the cartridge. Sand is very affordable. When it gets clogged with debris just backwash to clean it.
Your pool will also have a system that circulates the water. The motor will run the pump that circulates the water and while it is being circulated it will go through the filter system. The circulation system is usually plumbed within the walls so you will never see more than the actual filter mechanism.
